Engage the fans to help decide on-air resolution to the key TV storylines in the season finale

THE PLAN
​Create a compelling story that extends the one of the most interesting themes from the TV show: the conflict between Corporation (a future government) and Liber8 (a terrorist group)

An online campaign to ask fans to choose the side they support by sharing videos, using the hashtags, which will have direct impact on the storyline for the season finale.

Use of micro-short Vine video (New at that time) as one of the key social network to release the contents in addition to Facebook and Twitter

THE STORY
​

Liber8Now vs 1FutureOurWay
 
In the world of Continuum, there has been on-going conflicts around ‘Liber8’, a terrorist group who justify the violence to protect our future from the evil corporation. An anonymous puppet master starts to release the videos with messages from both sides and challenges fans to choose their side. At mid-season of the broadcast, the true face of the secret puppet master is revealed only on the web, and her name is Betty. She works for the police on the surface, but is starting to sympathize with Liber8. Betty’s fate is now on the hand of fans. Their votes will determine her decision on which side she will be with and the direction of the story in the season finale.

THE EXPERIENCE
A series of exclusive Vine videos got released throughout the season and invites fans to the central video hub.

As they scroll down the page, more videos appeared as well as the statistics from both sides gets revealed. The complex metric system was designed to search for Facebook shares and Twitter hashtags and awards points scaled to the difficulty of the “ask” of the fans, all represented visually by a simple point tally, the influence point. Both Liber8Now and 1FutureOurWay run the official Twitter page to help promoting their messages and get more points. ​

​In the mid-season, Betty confessed her true identity and dilemma on the site, asking fans which side she should be on.

  • Metric system that searches for targeted hashtags, awards points, calculates the total, then visually represent in the stacked bar chart
  • Responsive, parallax website that grows in length as more contents get released during the season

THE OUTCOME
  • Over 1000 tweets were generated. Fans choose Liber8Now as a winner, and the result was reflected in the season finale of Continuum.
  • Continuum renewed for third season at Syfy
